Tan Dun rings in the Lunar New Year with the Kennedy Center
Tan Dun conducts the Lunar New Year Celebration with one of China’s leading orchestras tonight at the Kennedy Center. Audiences will hear the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra play an explosive program bookended by Igor Stravinsky’s “Fireworks” and “Firebird Suite.”
Tan Dun’s triple concerto from his Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon score will be featured alongside Guan Xia’s “One Hundred Birds Flying Towards the Phoenix” written for suona, a traditional Chinese instrument, and played by rising star and 13th generation suona soloist, Wenwen Liu.
