Speranza Scappucci
Conducts Verdi's Attila in her
Gran Teatre del Liceu Debut
This Friday Speranza Scappucci makes her Gran Teatre del Liceu debut with Attila in Barcelona. Verdi’s ninth opera returns to the house for the first time in 33 years. Ildar Abdrazakov appears in the title role alongside Anna Pirozzi as Odabella, Vasily Ladyuk as Ezio, and Josep Bros as Foresto.
Operatic highlights of Speranza’s 2017-18 season included returning to the Wiener Staatsoper for La Boheme, Opera di Roma for La Sonnambula, and Teatro Regio di Torino for Le Nozze di Figaro, as well as debuting at Opernhaus Zurich with La Fille du Regiment and beginning her tenure as Principal Conductor of Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège with Manon Lescaut and Carmen.
Equally at home in symphonic repertoire, Speranza made her White Lights Festival debut conducting the New York premiere of choreographer Jessica Lang’s Stabat Mater; returns to Juilliard to lead their commencement concert at Alice Tully Hall; tours with Orchestra Toscanini in Parma; and makes debuts with the Detroit Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl.
