Sinfonia Antarctica

About

Although Ralph Vaughan Williams is remembered primarily as a composer of concert orchestral music, he also wrote music for a dozen films. One of them was Scott of the Antarctic in 1947. The composer was so pleased with his film score that he decided to rework it into concert music. Sinfonia Antartica , Symphony No. 7, was completed in 1952 and was first performed both in the U.K. and the U.S. in 1953.
