Vladimir Spivakov

Music Director, National Philharmonic of Russia


Vladimir Spivakov made his conducting debut in 1979 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival, the great success of which encouraged him to establish the Moscow Virtuosi. Mr. Spivakov is a respected guest conductor of such renowned orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the English and Scottish Chamber Orchestras. In 1989, he was appointed as the Artistic Director of the Colmar International Festival in France. Mr. Spivakov has been decorated with Russia's highest prize, the National Cultural Heritage Award. Appointed by Vladimir Putin as the Music Director of the newly created National Philharmonic of Russia in 2003, he has led the orchestra on two highly acclaimed tours of the US, in 2007 and 2009.
