Pianist Denis Matsuev concluded an intense eight-day, five-city North American tour with his annual recital at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, October 20th.

The tour garnered phenomenal reviews:

“Listening to a [Liszt] B-minor sonata so masterful, so structured, so powerful, we were reminded of… Vladimir Horowitz.”
Christophe Huss, Le Devoir
(Recital in Maison Symphonique Montreal, October 13)

“We hear Rachmaninoff’s music addressed by all kinds of soloists, but rarely by one with as much tonal depth, interpretive authenticity and high-toned craftsmanship as Matsuev produced in these variations. This was Rachmaninoff in the Rachmaninoff manner: immense in scale, technically audacious and thick with Russian ardor … Every note Matsuev played rang true.”
Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune
(Concert with Montreal Symphony in Chicago, October 15)

“One of the singular features that makes [Matsuev] one of the greatest of our generation is not so much his energetic stamina as his performative and interpretive risk-taking … As he so often does, Matsuev taught us much about what a piano can do, always working within its fullest range of sound, and he did so with natural joy.”
Stephen Bonfield, Ludwig van Toronto
(Recital at Koerner Hall, October 17)

Denis Matsuev returns to North America in March 2020 with performances of Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto with the New York Philharmonic and Valery Gergiev in David Geffen Hall.
